"Mind your head!"
Hey
So my sleeping schedule is all off. Everyone else is about to go bed and I am just waking up. It seems like after dinner I get this extreme urge to sleep, and I will sleep for a few hours. When I wake up everyone else is asleep.
Here a few sayings that I've picked up while I have been in London so far.
M8 = Mate (It's the same as saying dude)
"Mind your head." (It means watch your head because the ceiling is low)
"What say you?" (What did you say?)
"Mind the gap!" (Watch out for the hole!)
"Give way!" (Yield!)
"To let." (To rent/lease)
"Are you alright?" (Are you lost?"
jumper = jacket
sharp = good
teli/tube = t.v.
flat = apartment
Here are a few things that I've learned since I have been in Europe.
In the city of London there are more foreigners than English. There is a very strong Indian, Eastern European, African, and Carribean Island population.
The people in general are very stylish. Some of the things that they do and the clothes that they wear have not made it back to the States yet. The women dress to kill. Most of the men are metrosexual. There are not many overweight people. Most of the people that were overweight have a foreign accent. Cam noticed that there are very tall men here. She said something like OMG the white guys are so tall here. They are tall and thin.
The heaviest meal of the day is lunch. After lunch there is a break for tea in the afternoon, and dinner is usually of lighter fair. The other non English people that live within the city go about their normal eating customs. People do a lot of walking. Most of the buses and trains run 24 hours.
I can't compare London to any city in the states because it is too unique. It is in a class all by itself. The United Kingdom (LONDON) is one of the few places that still uses the country currency, they do not use the Euro. The pound is not as strong as the Euro, but the pound is stronger than the dollar and also stronger than the currency of other small European countries. When you are getting on the underground (subway) in the morning and the afternoon there are paper boys passing out papers to read while you are on the train. We made the mistake on the first trip of not taking the papers because we thought it was garbage. When we got on the train just about everyone is packed like sardines in a tin can..sardines all reading the papers that were passed out upon entering the train station. So now we read the papers on the train. The papers let you know what's going on in the city for the weekend, and what is going on around neighboring countries.
